- Animal harm
- Depressing ending (exception: Belladonna Melodrama)
My AO3 account is open to receiving treats, and I'd be thrilled to receive any if you feel so inspired!
The Last Binding Series by Freya Marske
Characters: Edwin Courcey, Robin Blyth (both)I would love something focusing on the romantic relationship between Edwin and Robin. I'd enjoy fluff and banter, or hurt/comfort, or smut (bonus if that involves Edwin's magic!), whatever most appeals to the author.
While I'd definitely want Edwin and Robin, I also love the other characters, so feel free to add others. Maud introducing Violet to Robin and Edwin? Maud helping Edwin speak with Flora Sutton? Edwin and Robin and Adelaide's relationships after the last book? Edwin and Hawthorne friendly bickering while Robin and Alan watch? Edwin (probably at Robin’s insistence) hosting a group meal at Sutton Cottage for everyone? But just focusing on Edwin and Robin is fine, too. :)
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (canon-typical levels okay).
Major character death (reference to canon deaths okay).
AUs (but canon divergence after the first or second book is okay).
Crossovers.
Non-canon unrequested romantic relationships.
Breakup/relationship angst (reference to canonical angst/breakups okay).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
The Doomsday Books by K. J. Charles
Characters: Gareth Inglis, Joss Doomsday (both)I'd love more of Joss and Gareth's relationship after the first book; before, during, and/or after the second. I think I'd also be interested to see these characters in an AU, as long as their personalities and dynamic are maintained.
Protectiveness is a big part of what I love about these characters. I love the more physical and infamous Joss Doomsday defending the dorkier Sir Gareth, and I also love Gareth being worried and protective over Joss.
I also enjoy both being protective of Luke... I kind of expected at least one shovel talk for Rufus in the second book, so feel free to do that missing scene if you'd like. (I imagine Gareth's shovel talk turning out scarier than Joss', to Rufus' surprise.) Or both Joss and Gareth being protective of Catherine and Cecy, or the younger generation of Doomsdays.
If that route doesn't appeal, fluff or smut also work. I particularly enjoy them falling back on calling each other "Kent" and "London" in smutty scenes.
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (canon-typical levels okay).
Major character death (reference to canon deaths okay).
AUs or crossovers.
Non-canon unrequested romantic relationships.
Breakup/relationship angst (reference to canonical angst/breakups okay).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
The Will Darling Adventures by K. J. Charles
Characters: Will Darling, Kim Secretan (both)I love the characters' interactions, and I love the action/adventure, hurt/comfort, and characters worrying/being willing to sacrifice anything for each other.
Some possible story directions:
- Will and Kim working on their first official case together
- The two visiting Phoebe and Maisie in Paris - cute fluff and banter, or their typical Things Go Wrong adventures?
- Kim being shot instead of Will for once, and Will recognizing how much it hurts to be on the physically uninjured side of that equation (and Kim being smug and ridiculous about that)
- Retelling canon scenes from Kim's viewpoint instead of Will's (especially if it's when Kim is pretending to be cool and collected while actually worrying terribly about Will)
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (canon-typical levels okay).
Major character death (reference to canon deaths okay).
AUs or crossovers.
Non-canon unrequested romantic relationships.
Breakup/relationship angst (reference to canonical angst/breakups okay).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
How to Fake It in Society by K. J. Charles
Characters: Nicolas-Marc Comte de La Motte, Titus Pilcrow, Eve Perreau (My gift must feature all of my chosen character tags; or it may use exceptions I explain in the form)Nico and Titus, or Eve, or a combination
I actually first read this book because I saw it was going to be nominated for this year's Yuletide, and I love K. J. Charles (if you can't tell). I loved the setup, Nico's con and desperation for a way out, all while feeling guilty about using Titus, and poor Titus just wanting someone to like him for him... I'd love to see more of their relationship postcanon, now that all the secrets are out. I'd also enjoy Alma and Eve being involved, if you're interested. Also, the hints that Eve wasn't just playing a role but might be actually nonbinary or genderfluid or agender or something intrigued me! I'd be good with exploring that, maybe with Nico being more of a side character and Titus there or not. Maybe Alma figuring out what it's like to be involved with someone like Eve. Tell me what it's like to be gender non-conforming in this time period!
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (canon-typical levels okay).
Major character death (reference to canon deaths okay).
AUs or crossovers.
Non-canon unrequested romantic relationships.
Breakup/relationship angst (reference to canonical angst/breakups okay).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng
Characters: Jack Wolff, Nath Lee, Hannah Lee (any combination)While I enjoyed the overall narrative of this novel, and how all of the main characters were hiding things in ways that came back to hurt themselves and others, I particularly latched onto the story thread of Jack's feelings toward Nath (partly because I totally called it early on).
I definitely want more of Jack and Nath's story, but I also love Hannah, the watchful, forgotten, youngest Lee child. I want to believe Nath and Jack would make sure to better include her in their lives after the events of the novel, and I suspect she might grow into someone both fiercely caring and desperately self-reliant, craving attention but fearing it won't last.
Some possible story directions:
- What happens to them right after the book, or when Nath is in college, or years later? When Nath achieves his dream of being an astronaut, are Jack and Hannah there to watch his first launch?
- Do people assume Jack and *Hannah* are a couple? I could see Hannah offering to be a beard to shield them from homophobia, until Nath gets jealous and decides he'd rather risk being openly gay than pretend Jack's just a friend, and/or until Hannah realizes she needs to put her own needs and desires first in her own life. (Despite my DNW of non-canon relationships, I'm fine with Hannah having an original character love interest of any gender, as long as the story focus is on the tagged characters more than the OC.)
- How does Lydia's memory factor into their futures? Does Hannah visit her grave, giving updates on what's going on in their family's lives?
- If you'd rather avoid Jack & Nath romance: What about scenes from earlier in their school years, from the friendship-that-almost-was. Or maybe a canon-divergent exploration of what could have happened if the events at the pool had gone differently and they became best friends throughout school. How much might that have changed things for Lydia?
- I'd also be good with more focus on Hannah and who she grows up to be!
Since this canon deals with some heavy themes (period-typical racism and sexism, speculation of suicide, unplanned pregnancy, etc), I'm fine with those kinds of topic being present to the same extent as in the book, as long as appropriate seriousness is given, and the main characters remain good (if fallible) humans.
I'm open to epistolary format or first-person POV for this fandom.Do Not Wants:
Nath or Jack being in a romantic/sexual relationship with someone besides each other (apart from the possible Hannah-as-their-beard plot idea above).
Jack's mom being at all homophobic, or Nath's parents being homophobic without being called on it/learning to be better.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence.
Major character death (reference to canon deaths okay).
AUs or crossovers.
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
Thrilling Adventure Hour podcast
Characters: Frank Doyle, Sadie Doyle (both)~Clink!~ 🥂 I love how much Frank and Sadie love each other. I love how irreverent they are about dangerous supernatural forces, taking nothing seriously but each other and their liquor. I love their unconventional means of defeating challenges.
Some possible story directions:
- A canon-typical supernatural challenge for our married mediums
- A more serious threat to Frank or Sadie, and the other being PISSED about it
- Kinky smut! (We know they're at least into bondage, right?)
- Another Sadie and/or Frank appears! Where did they come from? Clones, time travelers, mirages? Are they good or evil? ...do they all have sex? (I'm recalling a bit where some appearance-changing being made themself look like Sadie and possibly kissed her(?) and Frank said something about "an oddly specific dream-come-true"...)
- Genderswapping or bodyswapping (for smutty scenes or simply sillyness and confusion)
- My favorite recurring side characters: the vampire Donna Henderson or the noir private eye Pterodactyl Jones
I'm open to an alternative format like an episode script, epistolary, in-world documents, or online/social media interactions for this fandom. (What horrors would the Doyles face on the web?)
I'm also open to trans headcanons for Frank and/or Sadie.
I'd be fine with a crossover with the Sparks Nevada, Marshal on Mars characters, or with the podcast Welcome to Night Vale.
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (canon-typical levels okay).
Major character death (reference to canon deaths okay).
Non-canon unrequested romantic relationships.
Conflict between Frank and Sadie (banter is great, but not real relationship conflict).
The noncon of sex during a bodyswap (if the third-party owner of a body involved did not consent--it's fine if the bodyswapped characters are having sex with each other).
Dominant Frank/submissive Sadie (I don't care so much about "top" vs "bottom", but if there's any degree of D/s dynamics, I don't want Frank as the Dom).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
Belladonna Melodrama (song) by Charming Disaster
Characters: Isabella, Alexander, Alexander's Father, Figure Dressed In Black (any combination)This is a five-minute song telling an intense tale of intrigue, secret societies, nefarious schemes, betrayal, and murder!
My promo post
The song on Charming Disaster's Bandcamp page
In the spirit of the song, I don't expect a full unveiling of the overarching plans and goals of the unseen forces, as those seem inherently unknowable. I'd just love a bit more exploration of what the characters' beliefs and values and drives are, while being manipulated by the powers behind the scenes, or maybe even some POV of those behind the scenes...
Some possible story directions:
- How did Isabella and Alexander meet? Who planned it?
- What did Alexander's father share--or what did he keep secret from Alexander while on his deathbed?
- Was Isabella involved in Alexander's father's death? The graphic novel seems to suggest he was killed by the same "figure dressed in black" in the alley, but that doesn't mean Isabella couldn't have been involved in some way.
- What were Isabella's true motivations and feelings?
- Did any of the characters fake their death(s)?
I would be open to an alternative style such as interactive fiction (choose-your-own-adventure type things), epistolary, or in-world documents for this fandom.
[Deviation from general DNWs: Major character death is acceptable for this request, whether canonical or a twist/change from how that occurs in the song. And the ending doesn't have to be happy; it can be tragic and melodramatic.]
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (canon-typical levels okay).
AUs or crossovers.
Smut (good with it in other fandoms, would prefer it not to be a focus for this one).
Animal harm.
Star Trek: Lower Decks
Characters: T'Lyn, D'Vana Tendi, T'Ana (any combination)I adore T'Lyn, the Vulcan who's "too emotional" for a Vulcan ship and too Vulcan for a Starfleet ship. I also love that despite the juxtaposition of her calm and reserved nature with Tendi's constant exuberance, T'Lyn is clearly fond of Tendi.
Relationship option: I ship T'Lyn/Tendi romantically. At the very least, I think T'Lyn might have a crush on Tendi without having realized it yet. I'd love to see something with that if it appeals to the author--T'Lyn realizing she has those feelings? Tendi helping T'Lyn convince herself it would be logical to attempt courtship? Parallel universe shenanigans where their alternates are already married and it gets them thinking? Silly tropes like "there was only one bed" or "stuck in a turbolift"? (I'd be more interested in Getting Together than Established Relationship, I think.) If you're not into/inspired by that pairing, of course, just friends/colleagues/study buddies is totally fine. :)
I'm also interested in exploration of T'Lyn's character, so I would be okay with a story focusing on her, though still having Tendi mentioned or in the background would be good.
Tendi herself is pretty amazing, with the whole "Mistress of the Winter Constellations" stuff just being some part of her past she wants to put aside to be a wide-eyed Starfleet officer. And how does she maintain her enthusiasm through everything??
I also love Dr. T'Ana's crotchety attitude with doses of horniness. So I'd be happy with something focusing on her as well, or her interacting with Tendi and/or T'Lyn. I'm also good with her and Shaxs being involved as part of the story. (Maybe hilarious awkwardness with both Tendi & T'Lyn and T'Ana & Shaxs on dates in the same place?)
If you're interested in trans stories: I'm not sure I headcanon any of them as trans, but I'd be interested to read a take where some/any of them are. And with the tech of Star Trek, what options would trans people have that they don't in our current society? How does that change the trans experience? And culturally, what's it like being a trans Orion, or Vulcan, or Caitian?
Trek crossover options: References to other Star Trek series is a fun part of Lower Decks, and I'm cool with those being included. I haven't seen many of the newer series yet, though, so please keep any crossover characters/significant references limited to: TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager.
Do Not Wants:
Homophobia, transphobia, or racism by any of the protagonists.
Rape/non-con.
Gory violence (...canonical violence is even a bit much for me here, despite being cartoon blood).
Permanent major character death (temporary okay, they can see the Koala XD).
Non-canon unrequested romantic relationships (also no romantic Tendi/Rutherford, please).
Breakup/relationship angst (pre-relationship pining is fine).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
Galavant
Characters: Gareth, Richard (both)This is kind of the odd one out for me, in that I don't ship these two. But I think their relationship is sometimes super sweet, and I want more of that. I'd love some adorable young Richard and Gareth, with little Gareth defending Richard from schoolyard bullies and the like, or them singing each other to sleep... so cute! I'm also good with post-canon friendship stuff, maybe the two of them reconnecting after everything, or Gareth slowly coming to respect Tad Cooper as he grows up into an actual dragon.
Smut (good with it in other fandoms, would prefer it not to be a focus for this one).
Animal harm.
Depressing ending.
